Covenant Children’s Home is a charity residential home for orphans, destitute and underprivileged children located at Mualkoi, Gangpimual village about 5 kilometres from the heart of Lamka town, Churachandpur district, Manipur. The main objective of the Home is to reach out and care for orphans, destitute and all underprivileged children who are deprived of basic essentials of life. It renders services to children by providing their physical, educational, social-emotional and spiritual needs in order to enable them to become responsible and fulfilled adult members of the society.
Covenant Children’s Home is a registered establishment with Registration No. 68 of 1996 under Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989. The Home is also registered under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 1976 with FCRA No. 194160076 on 28th March, 2007.
Covenant Children’s Home was established in 2002 in response to the disproportionately large number of orphans and destitute children in and around Lamka town, Churachandpur. Churachandpur being the southernmost district of Manipur, it shares a porous international boundary with Myanmar where Lamka town is the transit route for large scale smuggling activities causing rampant drug-abuse among the youths. This unfortunate scenario had resulted in children becoming orphans and destitute. In addition, Lamka is a town of multiple tribal communities where inter-communal conflict had frequently flared up leaving large number of the population becoming internally displaced with no reliable means of livelihood. From its establishment in 2002, Covenant Children’s Home had rendered service to more than one thousand orphans, destitute and underprivileged children.
In Covenant Children’s Home, we create a homely environment where children experience the feeling of home away from home; and each child is sponsored by an individual who became part of the child’s unique development. Children are encouraged to communicate with their sponsors as often as possible to personally convey their growth and development while ensuring that they also touch base with their families.
In taking care of the children, structured monitoring has been done in their physical, educational, socio-emotional and spiritual lives in a periodical basis to ensure healthy development. While children have the vulnerability to develop herd mentality in an institutional environment, utmost care has been given to each child’s individual personality and unique abilities.
Holistic: In Covenant Children’s Home, we do not focus only in one aspect of the child’s life or the imminent needs alone; it is our commitment to care for the whole person. Through our holistic approach, we blend physical, educational, socio-emotional and spiritual care together to help children fully mature in every facet of life and transcend their destitute past.
Child focus: Every activity done in Covenant Children’s Home is first aimed at the child’s growth and development. Siblings, parents and other caregivers may receive additional or indirect benefits from our programs, but our focus is the one child. Each child receives whole-life care that is personal, individualized, relational, and tailored to the child's age, gender, health, culture and family situation. It is an investment in and for the life of the child.
